Mariah Treviño
Hi, My name is Mariah Treviño. I am Mexican-American and my pronouns are she/her. I studied Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Roosevelt University and successfully completed my practicum experience working with children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 15. I intend to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed no matter their background. To assist me in this, I have been part of a Mental Health Liberation group run by the Inclusive Therapists Organization for the past 3 years. Inclusive Therapists strives to make therapy culturally responsive and affirming for all through connection and shared knowledge.
Before my clinical internship I worked with kids diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as a Registered Behavior Technician for 2 years. After this ended, I continued to expand my knowledge around ASD and I use components such as knowledge surrounding sensory limitations and sensitivity to assist all of my clients.
During my past experiences working with children and adolescents in a clinical setting, I have used cognitive behavioral therapy, alongside psychoanalysis, and play-based therapy to assist my clients in exploring how their emotions connect to their behaviors, labeling those emotions, and then implementing coping skills to regulate themselves.
Before all of this, I work to build a trusting relationship with my clients and cater coping skills to their needs as well as their interests. While therapy can be hard work, I intend to make our sessions fun while still implementing learning opportunities so my clients continue to grow and embrace who they are. Overall, my goal is to assist clients in regulating their emotions so they can feel them, embrace them, and grow from them.
