Melissa is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. She obtained her Bachelors in psychology from Aurora University and her Master’s Degree in community counseling from National Louis University.
Melissa has experience with children, adolescents and adults. Her clinical work includes crisis intervention and therapy services within community agencies, government social services, hospitals, private practice, police stations, and schools. This experience has allowed her to be flexible, decisive, and assertive regarding her clients’ treatment. She creates a safe and comfortable space for her clients by showing warmth, compassion and humor. She sees herself as a guide who will help clients take control of their therapy and explore the stressors and concerns in their lives. As a team, Melissa and her clients will work on ways to achieve individual goals and cope effectively.
Melissa enjoys working with children (5 and up) and adolescents by using her creative side to make counseling fun, yet productive in sessions. She also values working with adults going through life transitions and exploring ways to manage their life stressors. Melissa has experience working with those who suffer from anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, depression, divorce, chronic pain, grief, LGBTQ, mood disorders, OCD, PTSD, self harm, and trauma. She is a trained Brainspotting Clinician. Brainspotting is an innovative technique that is a mind/body treatment modality that helps navigate clients through a safe and effective healing process. Melissa also uses but is not limited to, mindfulness, CBT, and DBT in client’s treatment.
